Tara Ireland
"As a child I was always fascinated with the effects of light on water.
As a painter, the fascination continues, and my desire is to capture the experience of the westcoast landscape. I love the minimalism of our coastline, the distillation of the elements - Earth, Air, Water - the movement of the sky and the sea, and always, the light - how it effects the elements, the landscape that surrounds us. After an absence of 20 years (raising children and working in the film industry), I have returned to painting and set myself the task of recording a year-round visual diary of sea and sky. I like the metaphor of the island, the inclusiveness, the containment - then turning my back on that, and painting what is beyond. Painting outdoors is often a challenge, but it allows me to keep a closer connection to the elements."
